What is Migraine?
Migraine is a pulsating headache that often affects one side of the head. It can be accompanied by sensory warning signs like nausea, flashes of light, tingling in legs and arms, extreme sensitivity to light and sound.
What causes migraine?
Migraine occurs because of the abnormal brain activity that affects the nerve signals, blood vessels and chemicals in the brain temporarily. It is not clear what causes the change in the brain activity but there is a possibility that your genes are responsible for this trigger. Other possible triggers of migraine include irregular sleep, smoking, dehydration, allergies, physical or emotional stress, or hormonal triggers like fluctuations in menstrual cycle.
Symptoms of Migraine
If you already have troubles with migraine, you would agree that you start noticing symptoms before even the headache begins. Not all migraines are same but some of the common symptoms include:
·         Pain at on side of the head. It can occur at either side of the head and the pain can be moderate to severe.
·         Throbbing pain
·         Vomiting
·         Inability to perform regular activities
·         Sweating, stomach ache, and even diarrhea
The migraine aura
The aura of the migraine is actually a warning telling you that the headache is about to start. It is not necessary that all experience these aura. So what are these auras?
·         Difficulty speaking
·         Seeing blank patches in the vision
·         Perception of flashing or sparking lights
·         Confusing thought
·         Stiffness in shoulders, limbs and neck
·         Tingling in arms or legs
·         Seeing zig zag lines
What’s the treatment?
The best way of dogging migraine is to avoid things that trigger it. There is no single cure for migraine. You can treat this condition by getting enough sleep, exercise, drink enough water, and try to avoid stress. You can always take painkillers to ease the pain but if it becomes severe, it is recommended to see a doctor.
